| In 1938, few believed that an insurance company could succeed by selling hospitalization insurance alone. One of the few was businessman Andrew Gump, who, with his equally intuitive partners, founded American Community, then known as the Michigan Hospital Benefit Association. In those days you could buy hospital coverage for $.03 per day! Rates have certainly changed over the past 65 years, and so has American Community. We now provide insurance protection to approximately 200,000 people across nine states. With our home office in Livonia, Michigan, the Company currently has regional offices in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska and Ohio. Our relentless drive has led to improved processes, products, sales and underwriting profitability. Policyholder surplus has grown from just under $22 million at December 31, 2000 to over $84 million at December 31, 2003. In ongoing recognition of American Community's success story, A.M.
